Basilica of Santa Maria Novella

The Santa Maria Novella Dominican convent, built on the square named after it, was constructed in the XIII century, and consecrated two centuries later. In the second half of the 1400s Leon Battista Alberti was asked to complete the façade, in white and dark-green marble. Also Giorgio Vasari worked on the modifications of the original project.
In the following centuries the church was restored many times.
Since April 2006 the façade has again been under restoration.
