Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace)

Palazzo Vecchio, the Old Palace, formerly known as "Palazzo della Signoria", owes its name to Duke Cosimo I, who decided, in 1565, to move the court to the "new" Pitti Palace.
The Tower of Arnolfo, named after its architect, rises above the façade.
Today Palazzo Vecchio is the town Hall, and houses some artworks by Michelangelo Buonarroti, Giorgio Vasari, Agnolo Bronzino and others.
In 1353 symbols which represent some aspects of the Florentine Republic have been drawn under the arches of the "ballatoio".
